She is the founder of Taking Positive Steps, which provides early intervention for children and young people involved in anti-social behaviour or who are on the periphery of crime, by addressing some of the root causes of their situation.

Career Overview

Dame Claudine has over 25 years’ experience of working with looked-after children, mothers and babies, and young people in the criminal justice system and in the social work profession. As a criminologist, she has long challenged the theories around engaging with young people who are deemed to display “challenging behaviour” by society.

Dame Claudine has been commended on multiple occasions by the Metropolitan Police, one of which was for her dedication to the community during the longest siege in British Police history, which lasted for 15 days in 2003. She has been a proactive figure in the retrieval of firearms, live bullets and other weapons from the community, and authored the book “Guns, Gangs and the implication for social workers.”

In July 2022, Dame Claudine appeared on a Leaders Council of Great Britain & Northern Ireland podcast, discussing the importance of leadership and the impact it has had on her career to date.
