Kenneth Muir is the former chief executive of The General Teaching Council for Scotland, a self-regulating organisation which operates independently of the Scottish government and is known to be the oldest regulatory body for teaching in the world following its 1965 establishment. Muir served in the position for seven years before retiring in early 2021.
Career Overview
During his career, Muir worked in a wide variety of roles within Scottish education for 42 years. He was appointed chief executive and registrar of GTC Scotland in 2014 and served until his retirement.
Muir regarded his role at the helm of GTC Scotland as the “best job in Scottish education”, and spent his tenure overseeing many changes to deliver on the council’s strategic plans and enhance its strong reputation.
