Career Overview
Clayton first joined GQA Qualifications in 2005 after having worked as a training officer at Rexam Glass. He started at GQA Qualifications as a technical officer, before working his way up the corporate ladder to become lead EV and deputy chief executive. He became acting CEO in October 2010 and took the role on a permanent basis one year later, a position which he retains today.
As CEO, Clayton’s role is all-encompassing. He helps devise the overall business strategy as well as ensuring the qualifications GQA provides are properly delivered and fit for purpose.
Clayton also holds the position of ‘Responsible Officer’ for GQA in the realm of compliance. He works closely with the regulatory authorities in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to help source new opportunities for the development of training and qualifications in some of the world’s emerging economies including China, India and the Middle East.
