Coronavirus update: UK test website "temporarily" shut down

The Department for Health has announced that the key worker coronavirus testing website has had to temporarily close after "significant demand".

A spokesperson said the department and its website was going to "rapidly increase" test availability, with more available as of tomorrow.

In business, off-licences and other alcohol retailers may welcome the newest ONS statistics, which show that although food and beverage sales have jumped. This comes, however, against the backdrop of a 34 per cent drop in clothing sales across the country.

Across the Channel, an economic "rescue plan" worth some £470 billion has been announced by European Commission boss Ursula von der Leyen.

And the Czech Republic has lifted the ban on free movement imposed to slow the impact of the virus, which has been in place since March 16.

In the Arctic, Greenland has welcomed the announcement of a US aid package worth some £10 million, less than a year after President Trump expressed interest in buying the Danish-owned landmass.

The biggest news, however, regarding President Trump, comes as he has been criticised by the medical community for discussing the viability of disinfectant being injected into the body.
