The Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) has made significant strides in bolstering its leadership team, with the appointment of three new board members following its Annual General Meeting held on 6th February 2024.

The CIPP, as the premier Chartered Institute for payroll, pensions, and reward professionals in the UK, is dedicated to elevating the profile of payroll within businesses across the UK and internationally. Boasting a membership exceeding 9,500 individuals, the Institute's commitment to excellence is underscored by its robust education portfolio and proactive engagement in policy advocacy.

Joining the board of directors are Chartered members Ana Laiu, Brian Sparling, and Lara Smart, all of whom bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the Institute. Their roles officially commence on 1st April 2024, marking a pivotal moment in the CIPP's commitment to driving excellence in the payroll sector.

Ana Laiu, with her MSc, FCIPPdip, AATQB credentials, is a seasoned strategic leader in payroll. Her dedication to championing the sector is evident through her extensive tenure as a tutor with the CIPP since 2018. Currently serving as the Director of Pay and Reward at PPHE Group, Ana's leadership acumen is poised to enhance the discussions within the board.

Brian Sparling, a recognised figure in the industry, brings a wealth of experience garnered from his tenure with prominent brands like Dayforce, TSB Bank, JD Wetherspoon, and BSkyB. His track record of delivering excellence in payroll and systems, coupled with his advocacy for best practices, renders him a valuable addition to the board.

Lara Smart, boasting over 15 years of experience in the payroll landscape, is revered for her high-level consultancy skills and problem-solving prowess. Having held pivotal roles in global payroll management for renowned entities such as Endeavor and Just Eat, Lara's insights are poised to shape the CIPP's strategic direction.

Commenting on the appointments, Jason Davenport, Chief Executive Officer at the CIPP, expressed optimism about the infusion of fresh perspectives into the board.

"Having three new members elected to the CIPP board represents a shift in the way we want to work as a business - a shift for the better. With only ten members sitting on our board of directors, introducing three new faces will be a big change, and one we’re looking forward to implementing," stated Davenport.

"Ana, Brian, and Lara all bring unique skill sets, perspectives, and experiences that will be hugely valuable in guiding the future of the CIPP and helping best serve the needs of our members. We’re excited to officially welcome them and work together to make a positive impact for the industry."
